Calcium Lignosulfonate Liquid

Liquid Calcium Lignosulfonate for Concrete, Binders and Dust Control

Calcium lignosulfonate liquid is a black water solution of calcium lignosulfonate at 45% minimum solids, supplied ready to use. It is the economical liquid choice for concrete and cement, ceramics, binders and dust control. Green Agrochem supplies a general-purpose grade and an acidic grade with higher lignosulphonate content.

Selection

Which Calcium Lignosulfonate Liquid Grade?

General purpose

Standard Grade

General-purpose liquid calcium grade for construction, ceramics and industrial binder or dispersant uses.

Used for: concrete and cement, ceramics, binders, dust control.
Higher lignosulphonate

Acidic Grade

Acidic-pH grade with higher lignosulphonate content and lower water-insoluble matter than the standard grade.

Used for: industrial binders, concrete and cement, dust control.
Application

Calcium Lignosulfonate Liquid Applications

Both liquid calcium grades list the same applications in their TDS. The acidic grade has more lignosulphonate and more reducing sugar; sugars retard cement setting, so confirm the grade with trial mixes for concrete.

  • Concrete and cement: Plasticizer in concrete and cement grinding aid, reducing water demand while maintaining workability; rawmix slurry deflocculant in cement manufacturing.
  • Binders: Fiberboard resins, casting sand, fodder pellets, and powdered or granular materials such as iron ore fines, lead/zinc powder, coal and coke.
  • Ceramics: Filler and binder in ceramic tiles; increases green and dry strength and acts as a lubricant during extrusion or pressing. Typical slip addition 0.1–2.0%.
  • Dust control: Dust-suppression agent for unpaved roads, haul roads and dusty industrial processes.
  • Lead-acid batteries: Active material additive in battery plates, improving lead sulphate crystallization.
  • Drilling mud: Viscosity reducer in oil-well drilling mud, replacing tannin (quebracho) thinners.
  • Plasterboard: Water-reducing additive that allows lower kiln drying temperatures.
  • Dispersant: Dispersant for pesticides, dyes, carbon black and fodder.
Form

Liquid or Powder?

Choose calcium lignosulfonate liquid when the product is used as a solution and volumes are large and regular: no dissolving step and no dust. Because about half of the shipped weight is water, the calcium lignosulfonate powder (95% min dry matter) is usually cheaper for long-distance export. Where calcium ions could react with other components, sodium lignosulfonate liquid is usually tested instead.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the standard and acidic grades?

The acidic grade (pH 4.0–6.0) has 55% min lignosulphonate on a dry basis, 1.5% max water-insoluble matter and around 12% reducing sugar. The standard grade (pH around 5.0) has 45% min, 2% max and around 4%.

What is the solids content of calcium lignosulfonate liquid?

Both grades are 45% min solids, with a density of about 1.27 g/mL.

Is calcium lignosulfonate liquid classified as dangerous goods?

No. SICIT (CNAS IB0071) classified calcium lignosulphonate liquid as not subject to the IMO IMDG Code (2024 Edition), so it ships as non-restricted sea cargo. See the SDS for handling.

Liquid or powder calcium lignosulfonate for concrete?

Both work. Liquid suits admixture plants that dose solutions; powder is cheaper to ship over long distances. Check reducing sugar in either case, since sugars retard setting.
