Lignosulfonate Knowledge Center
Practical product knowledge for sodium lignosulfonate, calcium lignosulfonate, lignohumate and lignin-based dispersants used in construction, feed, agriculture, dust control, ceramics, mining and industrial formulation.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE
What Is Lignosulfonate?
Lignosulfonate is a water-soluble lignin derivative produced during sulfite pulping. Its sulfonate groups help lignin disperse particles, bind fine materials, reduce water demand and improve compatibility in many industrial systems.
Because it is bio-based, economical and versatile, lignosulfonate is widely used in concrete admixtures, animal feed pellets, fertilizer systems, dust suppression, ceramics, pigments, leather chemicals, drilling, ore flotation and mineral processing.
Product selection normally depends on ion type, solubility, molecular weight, sugar content, pH value, ash content and the performance requirement of the final application.
Main Functions
- Dispersant for particles, pigments and mineral systems
- Binder for feed pellets, dust control and briquetting
- Water reducer and plasticizer for concrete
- Grinding aid and slurry deflocculant in cement
- Carrier and soil-support additive in agriculture
- Complexing support for trace element formulations

FAQ
Common Questions About Lignosulfonate
Is lignosulfonate natural?
Lignosulfonate is derived from lignin, a natural polymer found in wood and plant biomass.
Is sodium lignosulfonate water-soluble?
Yes. Sodium lignosulfonate is generally water-soluble and widely used in dispersing and water-reducing applications.
Which lignosulfonate is best for feed binder?
Calcium lignosulfonate is commonly selected for feed pellet binder applications because of its binding performance and cost efficiency.
Which grade is used in concrete?
Sodium lignosulfonate is widely used as a concrete admixture, plasticizer and water reducer.
Can lignosulfonate be used for dust control?
Yes. It forms a binding film on road dust and fine particles, helping reduce dust on roads, mines and storage areas.
How should I choose a product?
Choose by application first, then compare ion type, pH, solubility, ash, sugar content, form and dosing requirement.
